How a Therapeutic Journey Works
Starting a therapeutic journey can bring up anxiety and questions. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed at the thought of exploring your inner world. Below, you’ll find useful information on how your therapy sessions will unfold, so you can approach this experience with more peace of mind.
What you need to get started
To begin your psychotherapy journey, no referral from your GP is necessary. The only requirement is the courage to embark on a journey of self-discovery. It’s normal to feel apprehensive at the start, but the desire to understand yourself better is the first step towards change.
What to expect from the first session
During the first two sessions, we will focus on your personal history and the reasons that have led you to seek help. These initial consultations will allow us to explore your needs and evaluate the most suitable therapeutic method for you, as we define the goals of your journey together.
Frequency and duration of sessions
Sessions can be scheduled once or twice a week for Psychotherapy, and twice a month for Psychological Support, each lasting 50 minutes. The duration of treatment depends on your needs and the goals we establish. Studies show that, on average, 50% of people need over 20 sessions to see significant improvements. The length of the journey is flexible and can adapt to both internal and external factors, such as personal progress and life changes.
Managing sessions in case of absences
Consistency is key to the success of treatment. If you’re unable to attend a session, a catch-up can be arranged, even online. It’s important to notify any cancellations at least 24 hours in advance to ensure a steady workflow.
Ending therapy
You can end the therapeutic journey at any time. However, it’s recommended to agree on the conclusion together, dedicating a final session to reflect on the progress made and the goals achieved. This moment is valuable for assessing the situation and considering potential future developments.
Session costs
The cost of the initial consultations is £90. The cost of subsequent sessions may vary between £100-£130, depending on a number of factors.
Confidentiality and privacy
All content of the sessions is covered by professional confidentiality and protected by privacy law. Confidentiality is also maintained if I discuss my clinical work with a supervisor, an experienced colleague, to ensure high professional standards.
